Verity Gordon Couture

Born in Australia to British parents, Verity has been making dress dreams come true for the past 5 years! She began drawing intricate dress designs and accessories at eight years old and started sewing at 13, later taking summer fashion classes at Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).  While studying for her BFA in Fashion Design at Moore College of Art & Design, she showed her first collection at New York Fashion Week, starting her brand in 2018 after graduation. Her work has been showcased at the Century 21 Department Store and other local venues in Philadelphia. Although sought after by fashion houses in New York, Verity wanted more creative control of her own designs so she decided to start her own couture business.

Villrose Gowns

I’ve sewn my whole life, whether it was quilts like my grandma, or clothes like my mom taught me. When I was six my mom taught me to crochet, and when I was old enough she taught me to sew on the machine. It has been my joy and my therapy my whole life. 3 years ago I was in a crafting rut. I went to Joann’s to find inspiration. I found a pattern for an 18th century gown and wonderful fabric. Once I started I could not stop! 3 years and 70+ gowns later I am addicted to creating historical and fantasy gowns in my little sewing room.

Get Feral

Feral Workshop

A seamstress by trade, the fantasy and medieval universe has always inspired me. From the beginning, the armor and clothes worn by the characters of fantasy films or video games have occupied most of my thoughts. I love imagining concepts and seeing them come to life. Starting with a sketch or an idea, selecting the materials and seeing it all become reality is absolutely fantastic.

In 2016, I had the idea of creating an armor and costume design workshop. I never found the style or even the detail I wanted in the products that already existed on the market. In addition, there were not many items for women and especially not in my size. So I decided to create Atelier Feral with my partner. Since then, we have been creating custom creations together using techniques that we have learned ourselves.

Eat, drink and be merry

Kiss Designs

I started sewing in my early twenties simply because nothing I bought in the stores fit me correctly, so I started adjusting my clothing to make it fit better. As a child, my family moved about quite a bit and being a somewhat shy child, I much preferred books to people so I spent a lot of time in libraries. The images of golden age movies and Art Nouveau models showed me how clothes should fit but everything I purchased looked like a maternity mumu on me or my chestline was bursting out of it. Dear heavens, I hated my chest line!  I would deconstruct clothing and take out lining, open seams or pull in excess material at the waistline as I went along. Making lots mistakes and reconstructing as I went along. This led me to one basic concept, fashion should be accessible to everyone! Most women in this country are between the sizes of 12-18 and between 5’2″-5’7″, yet most clothing is still designed using a 5′ 10″, size 4 size model. Then simply “sized up” to make the pattern for the entire size run. This simply isn’t accurate and doesn’t account for different body shapes, and Heaven forbid if you change size due to a life event! My designs are created using real people, much to my family’s, (or should I say victims?) dismay. I try and put in adjustment points so if you change sizes, you can still wear your garb to the festival. Most of my designs are also reversable so you can create more than one look with the same base pieces. I also try to keep things price accessible, I would rather have ten happy clients and see my designs being enjoyed at the fair than one person wearing my garb.
